Rehabilitation of Ando'o well, Cameroon

At Auara, we are working to combat the greatest form of poverty there is: the lack of clean drinking water.

CONTEXT

Safe water is a scarce commodity, despite being a region where water is not scarce, much of the population uses unsafe water from rivers or springs of stagnant water. The most common ways to obtain safe water are wells or conditioning of natural water springs. For a large part of the population, it is difficult and very expensive to have these infrastructures in their homes or villages, so that sometimes the nearest safe water point is several kilometers away, which encourages them to drink unsafe water from rivers and unconditioned springs.

OBJECTIVES

In the village of Ando'o, there is a water well equipped with an Indian Markt II hand pump, which is currently out of order; therefore, we propose assessing the damage and repairing the pump.

The water stations are located at a community preschool, ensuring that the school’s students and teachers will use these facilities. In addition, all residents can also benefit, as there is no other source of safe drinking water.

MILESTONES

This project has achieved that, to date, 102 people have access to drinking water.
