Rehabilitation of Dibamba Deposit

Background

The Carmelite Missionary Sisters have a borehole in the leprosarium and a reservoir from which they obtain water, but it is 26 years old and needs to be rehabilitated. Therefore, as a local partner, they request support from Manos Unidas for the maintenance and repair of the installation of the well in order to be able to continue providing this service of access to drinking water to those most in need.

They intend to reinforce the integral health of the sick, and to be able to continue offering drinking water to the leprosarium and to the people of the outskirts.

Objectives

For access to drinking water, there is a good forage facility dating back to 1991. But today, almost 26 years later, with the high degree of humidity, all the pipes are rusty, and some very altered, reaching the point of breaking, letting water pass through the outside. It is necessary with enough emergency, to rehabilitate everything before it can be damaged completely. This situation affects people who use the well for water supply, both for personal use, as well as for school children and leprosy professionals.

Milestones

This project has achieved that today 170 people have access to drinking water.
