Well Boloso Sore

At Auara, we are working to combat the greatest form of poverty there is: the lack of clean drinking water.

CONTEXT

In the Boloso Sore district, water and sanitation issues have been identified as priorities for the community. Only 38% of the district’s population has access to safe water—that is, 73,470 of the 191,227 people living in the municipality.

Most of the population collects drinking water from unprotected rivers and springs that are highly susceptible to contamination, and only 40% of the population has access to latrines.

OBJECTIVES

The project has targeted approximately 91 households in the Boloso Sore woreda (local government), selected in collaboration with the local administration, which have benefited from the construction of a well and 91 latrines. In addition, efforts have been made to change attitudes and habits and to organize community activities, such as the formation of a water management committee and training in general hygiene.

MILESTONES

This project has resulted in 531 people now having access to drinking water.
