Well Boloso Sore

Background

In Boloso Sore district, water and sanitation issues have been identified as priorities for the community. Only 38 per cent of the district's population has access to safe water, or 73,470 of the 191,227 people living in the municipality. The majority of the population collects drinking water from rivers and unprotected sources that are highly exposed to pollution and only 40% of the population has access to latrines.

Objectives

The project has targeted approximately 91 households in the Woreda (local government) of Boloso Sore, selected as follows
together with the Local Administration, who have benefited from the construction of a well and 91 latrines. In addition, work has been done to change attitudes and habits and to organise community activities such as the formation of a water management committee or training in general hygiene.

Milestones

This project has resulted in 531 people now having access to drinking water.
