Roka latrines

At Auara, we are working to combat the greatest form of poverty there is: the lack of clean drinking water.

CONTEXT

The Roka district is located in Battambang, one of the provinces in Cambodia most affected by landmines.

Its population relies on subsistence farming and suffers from waterborne diseases, such as cholera and parasitic infections, due to a lack of water and sanitation infrastructure.

OBJECTIVES

1) Health and hygieneIt is key to ensuring that sick beneficiaries have low exposure to disease, as their condition makes them more vulnerable. By providing them with sanitary and hygienic services, we are reducing the risk of beneficiaries contracting diseases is significantly reduced.
2) Education:Many of the children affected by HIV/AIDS in the Roka Community have dropped out of school. We expect at least 50% of them to continue their studies.
3) Women:Because of the lack of sanitation in their homes, women in Roka face a much higher risk of sexual assault. Thanks to the latrines we hope to prevent sexual abuse in the beneficiary families by providing them with a latrine.
4) Economic:With the construction of the latrines, it is expected that the economy will be activated by hiring personnel from the affected area to build them.
