Latrines at Sagaya Matha High School

At Auara, we are working to combat the greatest form of poverty there is: the lack of clean drinking water.

CONTEXT

The school provides an education to more than 1,200 children who cannot access it through other means. Most of the children come from nearby villages and belong to fishing communities and Burmese returnees. Due to road widening, the school’s restrooms were demolished. The school cannot cover the costs of rebuilding these restrooms, as its students do not have sufficient resources to pay for the education they receive.

OBJECTIVES

Thirty toilets (15 for boys, 15 for girls) have been built in a new location. The ground floor has 15 toilets and the first floor has another 15. One of each type is designated for use by teachers and school staff. The facilities also include a wash area on each floor. The children can use the facilities to wash up and improve their health. To provide water, two storage tanks have been installed on top of the building, with pipes connected to the toilets.
