Fountain in Ambelta Feyera, Sasiga

At Auara, we are working to combat the greatest form of poverty there is: the lack of clean drinking water.

CONTEXT

The intervention focuses on the communities of East Wellega in the Oromiya region, a region with serious agricultural productivity problems due to weather conditions, livestock diseases and inefficient farming techniques. These conditions generate a constant risk of serious food insecurity. Likewise, it should be borne in mind that at present in Oromía, the main sources of water are unprotected, so wild animals, livestock and people share the same water points.

OBJECTIVES

A water source has been constructed for use in the Oromia region. The system begins by collecting water from springs in the rock, which is then channeled through pipes to a rectangular enclosed structure.

This structure allows water to be stored for subsequent distribution to the population and prevents contamination from sources such as animal feces, dead animals, or the use of water for washing clothes, for example. It also allows for water treatment if necessary.
