Fountain in Ambelta Feyera, Sasiga

Background

The intervention focuses on the communities of East Wellega in the Oromiya region, a region with serious agricultural productivity problems due to weather conditions, livestock diseases and inefficient farming techniques. These conditions generate a constant risk of serious food insecurity. Likewise, it should be borne in mind that at present in Oromía, the main sources of water are unprotected, so wild animals, livestock and people share the same water points.

Objectives

A fountain has been built for use in the Oromia region. The system starts with the collection of the springs in the rock and then they are redirected through channels to a closed rectangular structure. This structure allows the water to be stored for later distribution to the population and prevents it from being contaminated by, among other things, the defecation of animals, dead animals or its use for washing laundry, for example. It also allows for its treatment if necessary.

Milestones

This project has ensured that 600 people now have access to drinking water.
