A tank at Sambala School, Ludewa, Tanzania

Background

Sambala primary schools are located in the Njombe region, in the southwest of the country. It has 104 pupils. More than 25% of primary schools in Tanzania lack any system that can provide safe drinking water to their pupils, as well as the possibility to teach them good hygiene habits.

Objective

The project aims to supply safe drinking water to this elementary school by piping from the nearby water point to a tank that is installed on a tower that is built at a certain height. Once the tank is installed, taps are installed at strategic points decided between the school management and the contractor. The water reaches the taps thanks to the force of gravity. In addition to the installation, awareness and sensitization courses on the correct use of water and hygiene are carried out.

Milestones

This project has ensured that, to date, 104 people have access to drinking water.
