A tank at Milo School, Ludewa, Tanzania

Background

Milo and Wecha primary schools are located in the Njombe region, in the southwest of the country. Milo has 389 pupils, 196 of whom are girls. While Wecha has 184 pupils of which 91 are girls. More than 25% of primary schools in Tanzania lack any system that can provide safe drinking water to their pupils, as well as the possibility of teaching them to acquire good hygiene habits.

Objective

The project aims to supply safe drinking water to these two primary schools by piping water from the nearby water point to a tank that is installed on a tower that is built at a certain height. Once the tank is installed, taps are installed at strategic points decided between the school management and the contractor. The water reaches the taps thanks to the force of gravity. In addition to the installation, awareness and sensitization courses on the correct use of water and hygiene are carried out.

Milestones

This project has ensured that, to date, 389 people have access to drinking water.
