A well in Mimbil, Cameroon

Background

Mimbil is one of the villages within the Dja biosphere reserve, a river that almost completely surrounds the reserve. Although the area is rich in water, we are in the middle of the equatorial rainforest, access to safe drinking water is non-existent. The people of Mimbil are forced to collect water from a pond near the village. The ingestion of surface water is the main source of diseases such as diarrhea, cholera and typhoid.

Objective

The project aims to supply safe drinking water to the village of Mimbil by drilling a well, installing an Indian Markt II pump and building a super structure to protect against the creation of puddles. In addition, training will be provided in the correct use of water, personal hygiene and infrastructure maintenance.

Milestones

This project has achieved that today, 450 people have access to drinking water.
