A well with reservoir at St. Joseph's School, India

Background

St. Joseph's School in Ramnagar is built in 1945 as an elementary school. In addition, a small home was built for the children, as they had to walk long distances to get home. 75 years later, the school has 326 students between primary and secondary grades, but the well they use to fetch water has dried up after years of drought and weak monsoons. They must fetch water from a municipal spring that opens the taps a few hours a day. Unfortunately, many days after waiting in long lines, they find that there is no water left.

Objectives

The project aims to provide drinking water to the children and workers of the school, as well as to the neighboring population through the drilling of a 70-meter deep well and the installation of a submersible pump to bring water to a 1,000-liter tank installed on the school roof. Once the water is at a certain height, it will flow down to the taps installed inside and outside the school by the force of gravity.

Milestones

This project has provided 392 people with access to drinking water.
