Tank at Katama School, Kenya

Background

In the Tharaka region, girls almost never complete their education. The main causes of this failure are the marginalization of women and the mutilation of girls. Schools have no running water so students have to fetch water from home.

Objectives

The installation of a 10,000 liter tank as well as a rainwater harvesting channel allows the girls attending Katama Secondary School to have stored water. In times of drought, water hired by a tanker truck is stored in the tank.

Milestones

This project has achieved that today 402 people have access to drinking water.
