Rehabilitation and Drilling of Dluana well

Background

In Mozambique more than 62% of the rural population drink water from unprotected sources, of which more than 40% are from unprotected sources.
unprotected wells and 20% surface water. In addition, more than 48% of the population takes more than 30 minutes on foot to reach the nearest fountain. Drinking water in poor condition mainly affects the most vulnerable population, children under five and the elderly, who, without good treatment in a health centre, are unlikely to outgrow the diseases it causes.

Objectives

The project is part of a program to improve the Maluana neighborhood. A study has been carried out in which the different water points to be rehabilitated or created have been chosen. The drilling of a new well and the rehabilitation of another in poor condition have improved the quality of life of 1,100 people in the Maluana slum. Training in well maintenance and management is the longest and most important task of the entire project, as without it the sustainability of the well would be impossible.

Milestones

As of today, 583 people have access to drinking water through this project.
