Gankanga Secondary School Tank

Background

The students at Gankanga Secondary School and in most of the students' homes, a regular supply of quality water is not guaranteed. They only count on the water brought from home by each of the students. Girls are forced to carry water in heavy jerry cans from the nearest river to their homes. These obligations cause absenteeism among girls, increasing the great inequality between boys and girls.

Objectives

A rainwater collection tank has been installed, as well as the circuits that collect water from the school's roofs. The water is safe because it rains every day. In the dry season, the tank will be filled with water from a tanker truck. This school has been chosen as a model of good management.

Milestones

This project has allowed 520 people to have access to drinking water.
