Background
90% of the population of the area in which the project will be developed depends on agriculture and related sectors. The lack of rainfall during the seasonal monsoons in recent years has led to the depletion of aquifers. The socio-economic conditions of the inhabitants of the area have become deplorable and deteriorate year after year. Each year, an estimated 37.7 million Indians suffer from water-borne diseases, 1.5 million children die from diarrhoea.
Objectives
The project has solved the lack of drinking water in the town of Ayyampatty by digging a well and installing a pump (with motor) in it that allows the water to be extracted and a tank to store it as proposed for St. Mary Magdalene Church and St. Joseph's Primary School. The well has been built on the parish grounds, where the school is located. The water will be used by both the parish house and the school. The well is also used by the people of the village.
Milestones
This project has resulted in 1,015 people having access to drinking water.
