Well Sansi Gandó

Background

With more than 300 people, the Gandó ethnic group is considered inferior to the rest of the dominant ethnic groups in the region. They must give up their place when they are in line, they cannot share meals or parties or, of course, marry them. Most of the economic resources come from growing fields, grazing and making shea butter. The only improved source is 1 kilometre away so they use heavily polluted open wells or marigots (groundwater rising to the surface).

Objectives

A well has been built with a foot pump.
The project has been divided into 3 phases:

- Sensitize the beneficiary population.
- Form the water and fundraising committee for the contribution to be made by the population.
- Social mediation. Define usage rules and timetables.
Infrastructure installation. Drilling of the well, installation of the pump and construction of the safety zone

Milestones

This project has enabled 300 people to have access to safe drinking water.
