Background

Morocco's economic development does not reach the High Atlas region. Many villages still do not have access to the
electricity, domestic water supply, basic sanitation or education. In addition, women and children are
find themselves in a situation of social exclusion. The economy of the area is subsistence: small orchards and herds of goats and some walnuts are the only sources of income available. 85% of husbands migrate to the city for 10 months due to lack of work. Women and children are left alone in the villages.

Objectives

The village gets water from a spring that usually dries between the months of June and October. In these months the river that
passes by has contaminated water and is not drinkable so women and girls have to spend several hours daily
in going to the nearest spring for water loading in each trip drums of about 30-40 lts.
By building a water tank, they can collect water during the months when the surge is not dry. Channels have been made from the source to the reservoir, as well as from the reservoir to the dwellings, thus providing all the houses in the village with domestic drinking water, as well as a sewage evacuation system.

Milestones

This project has resulted in 400 people now having access to drinking water.
