Haiti cisterns

At Auara, we are working to combat the greatest form of poverty there is: the lack of clean drinking water.

CONTEXT

Haiti is the poorest country in the Americas, and its situation has been getting worse in recent years. Tortuga Island is located in northwestern Haiti.

It has few water sources, which are located far from consumption points and serve families scattered across a wide area, making it difficult to establish a distribution network for its 40,000 residents.

OBJECTIVES

The dry season lasts about nine months, so the construction of rainwater harvesting cisterns, with a capacity of 6,500 litres, has meant access to water for these families during that season. The following results are being achieved with this project:

1) Decrease the rate of diseases linked to lack of water, mainly
Cholera.

2) Improve access to drinking water for the population of Turtle Island.

MILESTONES

This project has managed to give 16 people access to safe drinking water today.
