Background
Street children (orphans or abandoned, runaways or accidentally lost, children living with their families on the street, who are a very important part, and children practicing begging) is an issue that is out of control in India. All of the children in this situation are child workers in informal jobs (scrap dealers, food stalls, windscreen wipers, picking up garbage, etc.) and are outside the education system. Many of them are not identified and are not served by any public service.
Objectives
India's new regulation requires a ratio of one latrine for every seven children and one toilet for every 10 children.
In addition, bathrooms must be properly lit, ventilated and tiled.
None of the four TMSSS homes has enough latrines and restrooms per child to comply with current regulations. For this reason, additional toilets and bathrooms have been built in these homes, so as not to run the risk of being closed down if they do not comply with legal requirements.
Milestones
This project has resulted in 20 people now having access to drinking water.
