Construction and rehabilitation of two wells in Kompong Chnnang

Background

Demographically Cambodia is relatively small, with a total of approximately 16 million inhabitants; population very young as a consequence of the long years of conflict - 65% of its inhabitants under 30 years. It is a mainly rural country - 80% of the population - with a subsistence economy that depends mainly on agriculture - 60% of the population works in the agricultural sector. It is estimated that 20% of the total population lives below the extreme poverty line: less than $0.45/day. In addition, 39 per cent do not have access to safe drinking water or sanitation facilities.

Objectives

Construction of a well in the newly built school in the Kompong Chnnang region. The school is located in the province of Kompong Chnnang, in a remote, forested and difficult to access area.

Milestones

This project will provide 166 people with access to drinking water.
