The municipality of Kinchil has an area of 160.95 Km2. It is located in the western coastal region of the state of Yucatán.
In the municipal territory, as in most of the state of Yucatan, there are no surface water currents. However, in the subsoil deposits commonly known as cenotes are formed.
In recent years, a pig farm has been operating in the area, which is causing groundwater poisoning.
Contamination due to the proximity of intensive swine farming and the lack of municipal treatment of the resource causes the water to present high levels of contamination.
