Background

Chad is one of the African countries with the highest percentage of children under 15 years of age, 47 per cent, while the percentage of people over 65 is 2.49 per cent.

Considered the 4th poorest country in the world, according to the HDI of 2017, since 80% of the population lives below the poverty line.

More than 70% of the country's population lives in rural areas and is engaged in subsistence farming and animal husbandry.

Objectives

The project is located in the municipalities of Bongor and Gounou-Gaya, in the province of Mayo Kebbi in the south-west of the country.

The aim is to guarantee access to drinking water and sanitation through the construction and installation of human powered pumps in the peripheral areas of the above-mentioned communities.

Training in human rights, gender equity, hygiene and sanitation will be carried out to strengthen local capacities.

This project has ensured that more than 936 people have access to drinking water.
