Well in Nazareth, Mother Theresa's Home, Tamil Nadu

Background

Factors such as high levels of pollution, overexploitation of resources or industrialization, combined with technical restrictions and non-enforcement of laws, have led to the production of large amounts of waste and pollution that seriously affect water quality. Erratic rainfall, poor monsoons, depletion of aquifer potential due to over-exploitation, have resulted in many public wells providing less water during the monsoon season and no water at all during the summer.

Objectives

A well has been built to provide drinking water to the Nazareth center, Mother Theresa Home, in the state of Tamil Nadu, located in southeastern India, which has been seriously affected by drought in recent years. The project also includes the training of students and the general population in health, hygiene, sanitation, health risks, preventive measures, water-borne diseases, etc.

Milestones

This project has ensured that, to date, 50 people have access to drinking water.
