Background
The population of Ngandanjika lives in extreme poverty, with a monthly per capita income of $15, which is less than $0.5 per day. They practice subsistence farming together with domestic breeding of minor animals. The population has a very low literacy rate. They lack clean water and basic infrastructure. High rates of malnutrition and malnutrition lead to increased incidence of malaria and infectious diseases.
Objectives
Following the hydraulic map of the area, in order to shorten the long distances between the population and the water access points, the technicians estimate that the viable solution is to provide each population with a drinking water point through the construction of a well with a manual pump. The main results are:
1) Shortening the distance people have to travel to access a water point.
2) Eradicate intestinal and diarrhoeal diseases due to unsafe water consumption.
3) Promote personal and domestic hygiene.
4) Increase girls' school enrolment by bringing the water point closer, as they are the ones responsible for bringing water to households.
Milestones
This project has ensured that, to date, 2,500 people have access to drinking water.
