Latrines in Cambodia

Background

Cambodia is one of the poorest countries in the world with a rural population of around 80% living on a very precarious subsistence agriculture.

There are very few services in rural areas. Health and schooling for children are the state's priority, leaving basic services such as access to water and adequate sanitation in second place.

Finally, Cambodia continues to suffer the consequences of the war with more than two million unexploded landmines.

Objectives

The project consists of the installation of improved latrines for families with at least one physically disabled member.

These bathrooms consist of a latrine, a sink and a shower area. They are spacious so that someone with a wheelchair can enter. They are also equipped with a ramp for easy access.

A septic tank is built at the back of the latrine.
