Mjimwema water tank and water point

Background

The mountainous region of Njombre is one of the poorest regions of the Tanzanian Republic. Despite being in the interior of the country, it overlooks Lake Malawi, the 4th largest lake in the world by volume.

The village of Mjimwema has no water supply system. Water is supplied by a nearby spring that is in good condition.

The village has about 1,500 inhabitants, in addition to an elementary school with 150 students and a secondary school with 400 students.

In total, the project benefits 2,100 people.

Objectives

The project aims to:

  • Protecting the spring
  • Create a water point
  • The first step consists of fencing off the spring to avoid contamination.

The second step is the construction of a water chamber for storage.

Finally, a water point is created to provide the beneficiary population with safe access to water.
