Construction and repair of two wells in Cameroon

Background

Safe water is a scarce commodity, despite being a region where water is not scarce, much of the population uses unsafe water from rivers or springs of stagnant water. The most common ways to obtain safe water are wells or conditioning of natural water springs. For a large part of the population, it is difficult and very expensive to have these infrastructures in their homes or villages, so that sometimes the nearest safe water point is several kilometers away, which encourages them to drink unsafe water from rivers and unconditioned springs.

Objectives

Drilling is done manually, by digging and inserting cement rings to secure the hole. Once the drilling is completed, the Indian brand pump is installed and the concrete superstructure for the drains around the well is made.

In both cases, the water points are located in Community Preschools, which ensures that the centre's students and teachers will use these infrastructures. In addition, all inhabitants can equally benefit, as there is no other safe water point.

Milestones

This project will provide 200 people with access to drinking water.
