Centre for the intellectually disabled in Tahen


Background

Demographically Cambodia is relatively small, with a total of approximately 16 million inhabitants; population very young as a consequence of the long years of conflict - 65% of its inhabitants under 30 years. It is a mainly rural country - 80% of the population - with a subsistence economy that depends mainly on agriculture - 60% of the population works in the agricultural sector. It is estimated that 20% of the total population lives below the extreme poverty line: less than $0.45/day. In addition, 39 per cent do not have access to safe drinking water or sanitation facilities.

Objectives

Rehabilitation of a well due to the passage of time and abundant rainfall for several years, the installation and pumping of a well has suffered damage in the pipes and in the process of pumping water to the surface. Currently, the centre for children with intellectual disabilities in Tahen only has a rainwater collection system.

Milestones

This project will ensure that 22 people have access to clean water
