Well in Nazareth

Background

In the villages of the Tamil Nadu region, almost all wells have dried up due to low rainfall during the rainy season and non-underground fresh water has been depleted. As a result, people and public institutions need to build wells to fully meet their drinking water needs. The chosen sites are in a dry area. There are no rivers or canals, cisterns or ponds, and deposits have been occupied as homes or farms. The inhabitants of these places depend on water from public wells for irrigation, consumption and personal hygiene.

Objectives

This need of rural dwellers can be met by digging wells and installing (motorized) pumps to extract water and reservoirs to store it. The water table has been significantly reduced due to low monsoon rainfall in the last 5 years and hand pumps no longer work. As a result, most areas of the Tamil Nadu region are suffering from a severe drought. The population and schools urgently need to be able to consume clean and safe water.

Milestones

This project has achieved that, to date, 600 people have access to drinking water
