Well in Tamil Nadu

Background

77.47% of the houses had access to drinking water infrastructure, according to the data collected during the period 2013-2014. However, coverage refers to installed capacity, not to the average actual supply over a sustained period and the quality of the water supplied, which is the most essential part.

Many diseases such as diarrhea, typhoid, or other disorders can be caused by unsafe water.

By investing in the improvement of hydraulic infrastructure, spending on these diseases decreases. This, in turn, allows the population to allocate its scarce resources to items such as food or education.

Objectives

To solve the problem of access to drinking water in the Duraisamipuram neighbourhood, a tank with a capacity of 1,000 litres is installed and filled thanks to the submersible pump that is placed in the newly drilled well.

The well will be built on the St. Antony's parish grounds and the water will be piped to St. Antony's Middle School, which is located on the grounds. It will also supply water to families in the area.

Milestones

This project has ensured that, to date, 1,651 people have access to drinking water.
